Marbles must have an appropriate name in order to compete.
Racing Rules
If a marble stops on the track then the supervisor of the race should move the marble to the top of the track, restarting that lap.
If a person touches a marble during the race, then the team's marble will be removed and they forfeit that round.
If the supervisor of the race stops the marble they can restart the race.
If there is an error with the track, the supervisor will stop the race. All marble positions will be noted and restarted after the track is repaired.
Marbles may not have any material added to them to reduce friction. However, marbles can be cleaned or polished before a race.
Qualification laps
Each marble will take several qualification laps.
Each lap will be timed.
An average time and speed will be calculated for each marble (the track is 9.25m)
Marbles will be ranked based on their qualification speed for the first conference race.
In order to compete, a marble must compete in at least one officially sanctioned qualification lap.
Racing
Marbles will participate in several races during their conference racing time.
Conference races will be multiple laps, up to ten laps.
Both marbles from each team will race alternately (they will not compete in the same race, and cannot compete consecutively)
In the first conference race, teams will pick their starting position based on their qualification average speed.
After the first race, teams will pick their starting position based on their team score.
Teams not racing should not be present at the track. They should be completing marble training activities. Team owners not racing will be quiet during this time.
Scoring
Scoring for conferences races is based on number of marbles, number of laps and the finishing position.
The first five places score will be calculated using this algorithm: (NL)/P. N= number of marbles, L= Laps and P= place finished.
Example: 6 marbles, 5 laps, 2nd place: (6*5)/2= 15 points.
All marbles after 5th place will be awarded 1 point.
Any marble that did not finish for any reason will be awarded 0 points.
Championship
At the end of the conference racing season, each team's total score (sum of the score of BOTH) marbles will be calculated.
The team with the greatest total score will be declared the champion of that conference.
In the event of a tie, a one lap race will be held with both marbles from the tied teams. The marble that finishes first will decide the team that will be declared the conference champion.
On the designated date, the championship will be held.
Teams that have been declared the conference champion will compete in a 5-10 lap race on that day.
Teams will pick one of their marbles to represent their conference in the race.
Teams will pick their starting position based on their top marble's qualifying lap score.
The Grand Champion will be the marble that finishes first.
All positions will be announced on the Championship webpage.
