The VEX V5 teams are comprised of 7th and 8th grade students. The VEX teams work collaboratively to design, build and program a robot to compete in the seasonal challenge. Adult coaches support their team members as they learn and develop their science and engineering principles as well as build their creativity, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving skills in a group setting.
The teams compete in Michigan qualifier events where they test their coding and driving skills in both the Robot Skills Challenges and Competition matches. The teams form alliances with other teams while competing in the Competition matches. The teams practice for 3-4 hours per week, typically split between two practices at Van Hoosen Middle School in the evenings. Being a part of a robotics team is a serious time commitment, but the learning, fun, and friendship building makes it a rewarding and worthwhile experience! For those teams that qualify, the season concludes with a state championship event and an opportunity to compete in an amazing World Championship.
