RSE resources

This site is a compilation of resources put together to support the delivery of the ESF RSE scope and sequence in schools, including training staff members and working with parents.
The RSE continuum of learning covers Kindergarten to Year 13. It was developed in order to ensure a cohesive curriculum in all schools across the Foundation.
It is divided into six phases of learning. The learning outcomes have been organised according to developmental readiness, rather than age or year levels. As such, learning outcomes may slightly differ between schools and between students. Typically, students would be part way through Phase 4 at the end of Year 6, ahead of transitioning to secondary school.
In the continuum, learning outcomes listed in a phase are only included once, and not in the next or subsequent phases as the learning in RSE is intended to be cyclical. In some cases, a key idea may be addressed for more than one year level, if the learning is building from a previous year. The learning outcomes will be different in each phase.
Recognising that it can be helpful for schools and teachers to delineate learning and teaching by year group, a sample scope and sequence is provided that is drawn from the continuum.
The sample scope and sequence is divided into two or three year levels in each section. Schools may then make informed decisions about what will be taught at each year level. This may change on a yearly basis depending on previous learning and student needs. Within each section, particularly in older years, some learning from previous years is included.
For RSE, children will not necessarily engage with learning until it is relevant for them. Similarly, the messages about safety and consent need to be systematically and consistently reinforced.
