Red Bank Regional High School’s Summer Theatre Workshop is an extension of the school’s long-standing commitment to excellence in the performing arts. Rooted in the philosophy of the Visual and Performing Arts Academy, the program introduces students entering grades 6–8 to musical theatre through high-quality instruction, collaboration, and performance.
For decades, Red Bank Regional has been recognized for its comprehensive Visual and Performing Arts programs. The Academy emphasizes artistic growth, discipline, creativity, and ensemble work—values that are central to the Summer Theatre Workshop and guide every aspect of the program.
The Summer Theatre Workshop runs for two weeks, Monday through Thursday (July 6th through July 16th), from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Red Bank Regional High School.
Students attend each morning and participate in structured, age-appropriate instruction led by licensed performing arts educators. The program concludes with a fully staged musical performance on the final day in the Joe Russo III Theatre.
Each morning is intentionally designed to balance skill-building, creativity, and collaboration.
Students rotate through three one-hour instructional sessions each day:
Acting & Blocking
Students explore character development, storytelling, stage presence, and scene work while learning how actors move and interact on stage.
Music
Music sessions focus on vocal technique, ensemble singing, and musical rehearsal, helping students build confidence and musicianship in a group setting.
Movement
Movement instruction introduces choreography, coordination, and expressive movement, supporting physical awareness and performance readiness.
These rotations allow students to experience all areas of musical theatre while keeping each day active, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
The Summer Theatre Workshop reflects the same educational principles that guide Red Bank Regional’s in-school performing arts programs. Students are taught by licensed, professional performing arts educators who bring both classroom expertise and performance experience to their instruction. The focus is not only on producing a show, but on teaching students how theatre works—through process, practice, and collaboration.
By working toward a fully staged musical production, students experience what it means to be part of an ensemble: supporting one another, taking creative risks, and learning responsibility within a group. These skills mirror the expectations and culture of Red Bank Regional’s performing arts programs at the high school level.
An Inclusive and Supportive Approach
The Summer Theatre Workshop is intentionally open to students of all experience levels. No auditions are required, and prior theatre or music experience is not necessary. The program is designed to meet students where they are, whether they are stepping on stage for the first time or already discovering a passion for performing.
Instruction emphasizes confidence-building, teamwork, and personal growth in a welcoming environment. Students are encouraged to explore new skills, develop self-expression, and gain comfort performing in front of others, all while being supported by caring educators and peers.
Red Bank Regional’s Summer Theatre Workshop is committed to providing a safe, engaging, and inspiring experience for every student. Through high-quality instruction and a positive learning environment, the program aims to foster a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts and to give students a joyful, confidence-building summer experience.
