Time to Record

Before you read anything else that I have posted here, browse this page, from GotTechEd the Podcast. It is MUCH MORE thorough than I could ever be about how to get started with student podcasting.

Recording Devices: Your students can use a tablet, Chromebook, their phone, or professional equipment to record their voices. Usually their is a built -in app for recording, or download a simple recording/editing app like Synth. Recordings can be created separately and edited together, just like you do on iMovie, WeVideo, or any editing software. Where you store them is your choice.

Storage: Some apps allow you to store and host your files (like Anchor). Otherwise, share and organize the files in a folder in your Google Drive, or create a SoundCloud or iTunes account to publish the finished files.

Free Programs & Apps for recording: Audacity, GarageBand, Anchor, Synth, zencaster, Zoom, or any voice recorder on a phone.

Audacity is free and created by volunteers, but you need to download it to the device you are using.

It can be downloaded on PCs and Macs, but not on Chromebooks

It's fairly easy to use, and allows you to see volume levels and add tracks.

Garage Band in the Classroom

Only available on Apple devices, GarageBand is an easy way to record voice and then save the file to add to iMove for editing or adding images.

In my experience, students are usually very good at navigating GarageBand and iMovie.

Download the app or go to anchor.fm

New Great feature- Up to five people can record at once, although the host still has to use the Anchor app.

Anchor provides free hosting, but since they are a Spotify company. They will also "own" your content, which many do not like.

Anchor is a great way for beginners and hobbyists to test the water with podcasting, before deciding whether or not to investing fully in it.

Download the app or gosynth.com

Interactive byte size recordings of 256 seconds. A podcast app for people that listen with purpose.

Think social media for podcasting. Requires hashtags for files.

Very easy for all ages to use and even add sound effects or transitions. Can string together files to make.
