Edgewood Schools is a proud recipient of the Healthy Meals Incentive USDA Grant! This website shares how the grant funds are being used along with nutrition education for our students and the Edgewood Community! You will find highlights of local farmers and chefs partnering with us to offer more unique, tasty, and nutritious school meals. You will also find a variety of resources like nutrition handouts, virtual farm tours, and more!
This USDA grant was prioritized for small/rural school districts to improve school meal quality through innovative programming, staff training, and much more!
Edgewood Schools was granted this opportunity, which started Fall 2023. The grant name is Harvesting Healthy Hoosiers. The grant is a two year cycle.
The grant goals are as follows:
Reduce the amount of added sugars in the School Breakfast Program
Reduce the amount of sodium in the National School Lunch Program
Engage students in local menu planning efforts, taste testing and nutrition education activities
Incorporate scratch-prepared menu items into breakfast and lunch weekly menu plans
Implement innovative practices in nutrition education activities and embed them into curriculum
