Fifth Grade Oil Pastel
Our fifth-grade Challenge students kicked off the year with a hands-on experience designed to explore an important idea: we may be working toward the same goal, but we don't always have the same tools to get there.
Students recreated the same artwork using oil pastels—but each student had different rules that affected the tools and resources available to them. Through this experience, students explored equity, empathy, assumptions, and access, discovering that the same goal does not always mean the same journey.
This activity sets the foundation for our Challenge community: appreciating differences, recognizing the strengths others bring, and seeking to understand before we judge.
