Read the story Search Dog by Rebekah White
Choose one of the following activities to complete today. You will post this to your blog this afternoon.
Design a Search & Rescue Poster (Canva/ Google Drawing)
Read the text and then design a poster to teach others what to do if they are lost (using the bullet points from the article).
Add images, icons, and bold text to make it eye-catching.
Extension: Add a “Did you know?” box about dogs’ sense of smell.
Google Slides Animation – A Search Mission
Create a simple animated story in Slides showing Roxy (or another dog) finding someone who is lost.
Use slide transitions and movement paths to make the dog “search,” “sniff,” and “find.”
Digital Comic Strip (Canva or Google Slides)
Design a comic strip retelling one of the hide-and-seek training games with Roxy.
Use speech bubbles for Jana, barking for Roxy, and thought bubbles for the person hiding.
“Through a Dog’s Nose” Infographic (Canva/ Google Drawing)
Create an infographic explaining how a dog’s nose works differently from a human’s.
Include diagrams, labels, and key facts from the text.
Option: Compare “Human vs Dog” senses in a split design.
Digital Public Service Announcement Video (Google Vids→ Screen Recording)
In pairs, create a short PSA on “What to Do if You’re Lost.”
Design slides with text and images, then record yourselves narrating it like a mini news report.
Final product: a short digital video
Virtual Trading Card for a Search Dog (Canva)
Create a trading card or profile page for Roxy, Goose, or their own invented search dog.
Front: picture, name, breed.
Back: abilities, strengths, training time, special skills.
Choose-Your-Own-Adventure in Google Slides
Design an interactive story: “You’re lost in the bush—what happens next?”
Clicking on choices leads to different slides (e.g., “Stay put” vs. “Keep walking”).
Eventually, Roxy or another search dog finds them.
Digital Timeline of Roxy’s Training (Slides or Canva)
create a timeline of the two-to-three years of training, showing the steps from hide-and-seek games to real rescues.
Can include illustrations, captions, and photos/icons.
