Code of Conduct for Junior Participants

In order to participate in events, training and activities organised by the Club our Junior participants are expected to:

During Training

1) Follow the expected rules of a learning environment

a) Listen carefully and ask questions without shouting

b) Do not leave the training room without permission

c) Only use a phone or other electronic device with permission

d) Be respectful to the coaches, coaching assistants and fellow learners

e) Be respectful of Sharon Community Village Hall and its fabric

f) Use no inappropriate language and make no distracting noises

During Play

2) Be respectful of others

a) Shake hands with your opponent before and after each game

b) Do not taunt, make fun of, or belittle

c) Thoughtfully make your moves in a reasonable amount of time

d) Do not brag about chess games at any time

e) Generally show humility

f) Keep quiet while other games are being played

3) Abide by the rules of the event

a) Touch piece rule

b) Take back, and allow your opponent to take back illegal moves (save where a completed illegal move loses the game under the rules of the event)

c) Raise your hand for an adult advisor to settle any disputes

d) Respect adult advisors by following their directions

e) Abide by the decisions of Organisers, Team Captains and Arbiters

4) Be respectful of the playing equipment

a) Do not let pieces fall off the table or get mixed up with other pieces

b) Set up your board at the end of your game

c) Be gentle with chess clocks

d) Never throw pieces or wipe out a board in frustration

5) No cheating

a) By wilful disregard for chess rules

b) By deception

c) By helping anyone during their game

d) By distracting your opponent

6) Report any instances of bullying to one of the organisers, or to one of your coaches or to your team captain and know that this will be confidential and dealt with in a sensitive manner.
