2024-April Tournament

On Saturday 13th April the Sharon Junior Chess Club held a 'Mock' Chess Tournament as a culmination of the Novice Chess Player training that we have been doing over the past few months. A few brave players from the Moorlands Junior School were invited to participate (to keep our players on their toes) and the event was attended by Adam Scoular President of the Greater Manchester Junior Chess Federation who provided digital Chess Clocks for the event and welcomed the children to the event.  The event ran from 1.00pm to 5.00pm and we managed to host 24 young players and squeeze 5 rounds into the day. Our thanks to all the parents for supporting this event and our University volunteers who helped out on the day. Special thanks to  Steven Tuson (our Club Grand Master) who administered the complicated task of who would play whom in each round. At the end of a gruelling four hours players were each presented with a CSC (Chess in Schools & Communities) Workbook 2 and a fist full of sweets. This is the first time that club players have been issued with workbook 2 (which tests tactical & end play knowledge).  We are very grateful to the CSC for their continued support of our activities. The Club is sponsored & funded by the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Aris Fund which covers our Room Hire costs at the Sharon Youth centre who also support the club & provide refreshments to the children at every event.
