Grades 3-5
What is the Rashi STEAM Fair?
STEAM Fair is a multi-year interdisciplinary project for Grades 3-5. Students use the design thinking process, guided by a United Nations Sustainable Development goal (UNSDG) that is closely aligned with the yearlong essential question.
This multi-year project focuses on particular skills (science, data, presentation, collaboration, etc) and how to grow them from grade to grade. With the projects organized under one umbrella, there is thoughtful design as to how to progress in all areas covered. For our upper elementary students, this is one of the opportunities to present a long term project in and outside of Rashi, which also serves as preparation for Milestone Projects in Middle School.

What is MOVEMENT and
why does it happen?
In Grade 3, students learn the ropes of STEAM Fair. They work in groups and with teachers to complete all the steps of an experiment, from identifying a client through data analysis.
Specifically, Grade 3 objectives are:
- Write a problem statement with the guidance of a teacher.
- Match an appropriate solution to the client.
- Draw models.
Grade 4

ENERGY drives change
In Grade 4, students work in groups with less teacher support than in Grade 3. They choose a client based on the source of renewable energy that most excites them.
Specifically, Grade 4 objectives are:
- Based on testable question, identify independent and dependent variables in an experiment and write a prediction.
- Design a simple controlled experiment.
- Analyzes and interprets data from graphs, charts, and images to develop an argument or support a claim.

SEEDs of life: sowing the seeds
In Grade 5, not only does the independence increase, so does the complexity of the experiment, often including difficult content and an engineering component.
Specifically, Grade 5 objectives are:
- Complete a multi-step experiment that can involve engineering or preliminary scientific experiments.
- Combine/synthesize information in/from written text with that contained in corresponding tables, diagrams, and/or charts to support the engagement in other scientific and/or engineering practices.
