Haggadot
Kindergarten
Students in Kindergarten make a haggadah each year, then participate in a classroom seder. This year, we reworked the current model to allow for more creativity and cross-curricular connections. Coming off a unit on material science, many pages involved brainstorming about what materials would work as models for elements of the seder. After learning about maps and how to create a map, students made maps for the afikomen page. Pictured below are some of the student-created pages in use during the seder.
Students used blue cellophane to create the illusion of water for hand washing.
Using stickers and images of their own faces, students created pages about the Four Children and Ten Plagues.
Students used their mapping skills to create a map of home. Using magnets, they can search for the afikomen in their haggadah.
Students explored many materials looking for the right choice to represent matzah. Students brainstormed about color, texture, and shape. Pictured here is a piece of corrugated cardboard.
Many of our kindergarteners don't want to try maror, but this adorable tickler can be used during the seder to mimic that burning, sneezy sensation.
For the covers, students used their painting skills learned in Art class. They practiced mixing colors and using different amounts of water to achieve their designs.
For Karpas, we dip the bitter herbs in water. Here, students created an interactive dipping mechanism with a pull-tab.
