Community Models

Grade 1

Students in Grade 1 explore the question, “Why does one need a community?” They learned about the entities in a town, visited Dedham Center, worked with town officials, then worked in groups to create a model of an entity, which they presented to guests. The goal of the project for each student was to demonstrate their understanding of a community as a system and the interdependence of each part of the system. In the Kol-lab, students collaboratively created a list of items needed and a plan for the layout of the space. Then, using recycled materials, they built these amazing models. Students were so proud of what they learned and built!
