Seed Paper Tashlich

Grade 6 - Grade 7

The goal of Tashlich, the tradition we perform between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, is to cast away our sins. Traditionally, we throw bread or seeds into moving water. Students in Grade 7 had the opportunity to perform the traditional Tashlich customs, but also participated in a Maker Tashlich, meaning they did Tashlich with a maker spin. Students were given only writing utensils and seed paper and the challenge was to create a vessel or three-dimensional object in/on which their sins can be cast away (or in this case, buried). The students planned, prototyped, built, and ultimately buried their creations, symbolically casting away their sins, allowing for new personal growth in the coming year.
