STEAM Fair

Grades 4-5

At the Grade 4 and 5 STEAM fair, family, faculty, and friends were presented with an impressive array of sustainability projects, each based off of a U.N. Sustainability Goal. Grade 4 teams did a deep dive into Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Grade 5 was guided by Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), examining how the mycelium harvested from fungi could be used as an effective material for a range of products.

Students chose a client, identified the problem, crafted a testable question, then ran an experiment. Students in Grade 5 also wrote pitches to the client. The projects were presented at STEAM Fair. In the weeks leading up to the event, students were bustling in and out of the Kol-lab all day checking on their experiments, taking measurements, watering seeds, moving things from the incubator to the freezer, building prototypes, and more.
