Wood Robots
Kindergarten - Grade 5
Students learned about and explored different tools used for sanding. Once their wood piece was smooth, they chose odds and ends to create a face. Some students stuck to traditional facial structure, whereas others went as far as their creativity took them.
We experimented with a variety of adhesives, making predictions about which would be the best option for this project. With the support of teachers, students practiced important safety skills using the hot glue gun.
Inspired by the faces made by students in Kindergarten through Grade 2, students in Grades 3-5 created their own faces and added a body. Students used additional skills, such as drilling with a handheld drill to add limbs and make their projects moveable.
Students were so excited to participate in a project across grades and see the differences between the finished products.
