After the attacks of September 11, hate, stereotypes, and antipathy became a daily occurrence for people of Middle Eastern descent, Muslims, and anyone with resemblance to those associated with the attacks. Americans assumed Islam and the Middle East to be the breeding grounds of violent anti-American sentiment, mainly due to a lack of understanding about the difference between the religion itself and extremist followers. These new perspectives combined with the Middle East’s views of the West created a multitude of issues regarding race, ethnicity, and religion after 9/11.
