Transportation's menacing effect on our planet
by adrian hosford, arabella wilson, daphne escudero, and meridian berliner-smith
Abstract
Our group researched the transportation industry and we discovered that transportation has multiple negative effects on our climate and ecosystem. According to (Public Transportation, 2025) the transportation industry causes 1/4 of energy related Greenhouse gas emissions and 1/5 of global carbon dioxide emissions. Transportation may seem like a great way to get things from one place to another, but it comes with a cost. It not only has a part in worsening climate change, but it also affects our air quality, water, human health, and wildlife. Unless we start putting more effort into saving the environment, the world as we know it today will be doomed. There are various solutions for this issue, though. Some include electric cars, air capture technology, and walking or biking to places.

A medium-sized cruise ship emits greenhouse gases equivalent to those of 12,000 cars, and it can put over 1 billion gallons of sewage into a body of water
The chart above shows how cruise ships; a common large passenger ship designed primarily for leisure travel and vacationing is actually the biggest black carbon polluter.

did you know that A PRIVATE PLANE FROM LONDON TO PARIS IS 6 TIMES MORE POLLUTING PER PASSENGER THAN A COMMERCIAL FLIGHT!
This figure shows the amount of extra heat that can be trapped by a type of clouds called cirrostratus, which are made by airplane contrails (the white streams of cloud that aircrafts leave in the sky). The way these clouds form in depending on the weather and location of where the plane is flying. Scientists are still studying how these clouds can affect our climate.
The chart below is about how different forms of transport affect our climate.
