World History Honors is offered to Ramsey High School in grade nine. As citizens of a global community, students must have an understanding of the geographical, cultural, social, political and historical developments that have shaped the world in which we live. This course explores the foundations of modern societies by tracing the development of world history from the period of the Renaissance through the modern day.
As citizens of a local, national, and global community, students must have an understanding of the geographical, cultural, social, political, and economic developments which have shaped the world in which we live. Students will learn to recognize and respect the different cultures and values of the people who inhabit our world. Through the study of the causes and effects of world events, students will come to understand the nature of human relationships. In a world experiencing rapid, often unpredictable change, it is imperative for students to develop the capacity to find solutions to complex global problems.
Today’s students need to become active decision makers of their futures, not just as individuals, but as a generation. Students must recognize that universal standards of human rights (and threats to those rights) transcend geographic or political boundaries. Only active participation of an informed citizenry can influence the decisions of policymakers and thereby facilitate the peaceful resolution of problems and conflicts.
To further prepare students for success in AP US History and other higher-level courses, World History Honors will emphasize skill-building related to reading, writing, and critical thinking that are essential to historical reasoning, analysis, and argumentation.
