Course Overview:
This course is offered in the tenth year as part of the college preparatory sequence to any student that has successfully completed Algebra I and Geometry.
Essentially, this is a second course in algebra. The notation, concepts, and skills of elementary algebra are reviewed by means of a critical examination of the structure of the real number system. Emphasizing self‑reliance, verbal precision, a readiness to look for general principles, and a questioning attitude develops the student’s mathematical maturity.
The concepts of relation and function (particularly quadratic relations and functions) are developed over the system of real numbers. Irrational numbers are studied in detail and complex numbers are also introduced.
