Reading The Band Schedule & How Lessons Work

How does the Band Lesson Schedule Work?

Lessons will begin on the 2nd week of the school year and each student is assigned a group number.  Find that group number on the band schedule and you will see your band times for the next 8 weeks.

The Rotating Schedule (Sample Schedule)

The lessons are on a “rotating pull out” basis which simply means that each group will be leaving and returning to class at different times each week.  Students are responsible to know when their band times are and to arrive on time to each lesson every week.

For example:  Say Jackie is in group Clarinet1 and her lessons are on Tuesdays.  She will always bring her clarinet to school on Tuesdays because her lesson day never changes.  According to the band schedule, Jackie has her first lesson on Tuesday, September 12th @ 8:40.  Jackie’s next lesson will be on Tuesday September 19th @ 9:20. This cycle repeats itself for the entire school year.

Homework & Classwork

This type of schedule is the most flexible for a large amount of students.  Students will only miss the same class every 6-7 weeks.  Of course all homework and class work missed is the responsibility of each band participant.

Absences & Rescheduling

Students have about 33 scheduled lessons in a school year and so it is very important that each player show up for his/her lesson each week.  Students may reschedule their lesson by telling Mr. J before/after their scheduled lesson time, emailing from home or sending in a note from a parent.  If a child has a test, class project or something very important that they absolutely cannot miss, they may reschedule.  All players are expected to come to class even if they do not have their instrument in school.

Regrouping

There are instances when a student(s) will be moved between groups.  As the lessons progress, adjustments may be made according to ability, class size and instrumentation changes.
