RED RIBBON WEEK
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year.
Red Ribbon Week pays tribute to DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. On February 7, 1985 he was killed by Mexican drug traffickers while working undercover.
In honor of Special Agent Camarena his friends and family wore red ribbons. The first Red Ribbon Week celebrations were held in La Mirada and Norwalk, California.
This year Viola celebrated its sixth Red Ribbon Week starting October 13th. The week’s activities included a poster contest, paws-itively poster, and three guessing contests. Students were given stickers, book marks, and red ribbons with anti drug phrases.
We had an assembly on Thursday during the week.
