During Kindergarten and 1st grade, students will be participating in a movement education program, where they will learn a wide variety of basic skills. Students will learn the basic locomotor movements of hopping, jumping, sliding, and galloping. A wide variety of manipulative skills will be introduced, including throwing/catching, kicking, rolling, and striking. Additionally, Cooperative games will build teamwork and problem solving skills.
Along with the movement education program, a main focus during the entire school year is fitness education. Students will learn about the basic components of fitness and the effects of exercise on the body and mind.
2-5
In the 2nd through 5th grade, students will begin learning the skills and rules associated with a variety of traditional sports such as soccer, football, basketball, and lacrosse. Additionally, students will be introduced to lifelong activities that include golf, tennis, and orienteering. Students will build on their knowledge of the basic components of fitness and learn about specific ways to increase their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength.
