Raleigh County’s Virtual Learning Program (RCS-VLP) is open to all eligible students within the district. RCS-VLP is an innovative educational experience that takes place in an interactive learning environment created through technology. The Raleigh County School district remains steadfast to a commitment of excellence. All grades earned through participation in RCS-VLP will be assigned by the Virtual School instructors and not the local teachers. Grades will be sent electronically to the district office for upload to Schoology for transcripts and report cards. It is very important for parents and students to have ongoing dialogue with the Virtual School instructors to ensure there is no miscommunication about your child's academic performance while participating in these online programs.

What We Do

Students have the flexibility to access the courses 24/7 to meet their schedule needs. In addition, enrolled students can participate in all school activities, compete athletically, and graduate.

Jon Moore

Virtual Social Studies Teacher

I have been a social studies teacher in WV, and previously VA, since 2006. I am also an adjunct professor at WVU Tech in the Department of Sports Management. Additionally, I instruct WVSSAC Coaches’ Education Courses for the southern West Virginia region. I earned my BS in Social Studies Education from Concord University and have a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Grace College. History is something that I have been passionate about since I was a student, and it brings me great joy to share stories of the past with future generations.

Hannah Mullins

Virtual ELA Teacher

I have been teaching for Raleigh County Schools for just over 15 years. I am a virtual instructor and thoroughly enjoy helping students reach new heights of learning on the virtual platform. I teach ELA at the secondary levels and currently am teaching elementary ELA. I love to write, and writing is truly an art that can change people for the better. Only you can tell your story, but I can help you gain the necessary skills to effectively do just that!

Gary Newberry

Virtual Math Teacher

This is my 34th year teaching mathematics in Raleigh County Schools and my third year teaching computer science at WVU-Tech. I have a Ph.D. degree in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design for Online Learning, a M.S. degree in Education with a specialization in Educational Computing, a B.S. degree in Mathematics/Computer Science, and a B.S. degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. I absolutely love math and technology! I decided to become a teacher because I wanted to make a real difference in students’ lives by showing them that I care about their well-being and also about the importance of having excellent math skills. I love to see students’ eyes light up when they “get” a concept.
