The English Enlightenment Chapter was founded in 2007 by Mrs. Karen Short and the founding members. It is one of sixty-seven chapters in the state of New York.

Prospective Members must:
Have a 90% overall GPA
Have a 90% GPA in English (comprised of English 9 and in progress English 10 for candidates seeking membership starting in their Junior year, and in progress English 11 for candidates seeking membership starting in their Senior year)
Demonstrate leadership and community service
Demonstrate good character
Participate in English Language Arts - related activities (Drama Club, Journalism class, Public Speaking class, Oratorical contests, etc.)
Take, or anticipate on taking, college-level English courses while in high school
