On this page you can see some of the questions we get from parents and our answers. You can also post your own general question at the bottom of the page and we will post the answer within a few days, sometimes sooner.
Yes you can change your days and hours, but we ask that you do this at the start of a new half term. This means you can make changes at the end of October, December, mid Feb, after Easter and the end of May. This helps us with organisation. This is the same whether you qualify for the funding or are self-funding.
All children can have up to 30 hours if they want it, we don't limit the number of places for full-time and part-time.
We will send you information about Raglan Wrap Club in June/July. Once you register you will have access to the Magic Booking System for you to book and pay for the sessions you require. Currently COVID restrictions are still in place, but we will await to see what that will look like going forward. You can visit the Raglan Wrap Club page here.
This is possible. All your morning sessions are free, so you would just have to pay the school for the three afternoons. From September we will be using Magic Booking for Nursery bookings. We already use this for Wrap Club so you will see all options on there to book. You can then set up a payment plan or pay in one go.
We are waiting for the detailed information on baseline assessments for Reception, which begin in September. They are new and mandatory for schools. They are more of an accoutability measure so the government can measure progress from Reception to Year 6. The assessment is actually a 1:1 session with each pupil and their teacher with a series of questions and tasks. These will be done in a relaxed and fun way. The data has to be submitted to the DfE.
We do try and match friends where possible. Most the children will be coming from Raglan Nursery so we already know them well. For new pupils to Raglan, we are talking to their nurseries to find out more information and they will help steer us with regards to who might be placed together. If you know your child is the only one starting with us, then get in touch as there might be a neighbour or someone you know.
Many parents choose to wear the school jumper or cardigan as the children are part of the Raglan Schools. We recommend joggers or leggings as the children will be busy, active and no doubt messy at times.
Enfield Council manage all the admissions process, so to apply for a primary school, you need to visit the council website and follow the information on making an application. You will be able to choose several schools on your application and the criteria will be applied to each of your choices. Children who are looked after or previous looked after and those with an Education Health and Care Plan have priority in the process. Those with a sibling already at the Infant or Junior School have a higher priority. Finally distance is applied to remaining places until all the places have been allocated.
The school already has a number of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities and has an experienced staff to support a wide range of children. We have an Assistant Headteacher to oversee all inclusion matters and a SENDCo to support and advise staff, parents and carers. Starting school can be a challenge for many pupils, but we aim to get the transition right to support each child. Some make take longer than others but we work closely with parents to make this a successful start to school. Visit our Inclusion Page and our SEND pages for more information.
Both schools are rated as Good by OfSTED. The schools are inspected separately with the last inspections being in 2019 (Juniors) and 2018 (Infants). You can read the OfSTED letters below
Infant School - OfSTED Letter - February 2018
Junior School - OfSTED Letter - November 2019
Our public polices are posted on our school website policy page. This includes a list of all statutory policies and some other ones that are good to share. Policies are reviewed at different times depending on the legislation, so some every year and others every two or three years.
There is no formal breaktime for Reception or Nursery as their curriculum is different and is play based learning. For Years 1-6 they have 20 minutes in the morning and an hour for lunch although some of that will be eating.
Interaction is limited between the Infant and Junior schools mainly because of the size of school. Each phase has a separate playground but sometime there is interaction on the field in Summer. Each week (in normal times) we have two Celebration Assemblies every Friday and we mix the groups from Reception to Year 6 so they see each other every week. Occasionally on special days classes may interact through a shared reading or other curriculum event.
We wouldn't expect Reception pupils to take a nap, so we don't have this set up. If a pupil was not ready for full time yet, then we would have a discussion with the parent as to what the best approach would be for that pupil.
In normal times, parents would register at Raglan Wrap Club and then use the live booking system to book their sessions. There is a cap of 100 in each session. At the moment places are restricted due to COVID and we have a priority system in place due to limited numbers.
The behaviour policy is on our website - click here to find the policy page
There are 120 staff at Raglan and at the end of the academic year in 2020, 8 staff left including 3 retirements and 1 relocation.
Nursery is self-contained with its own building and outdoor space. Reception have their own outdoor space which is flexible and can be organised in sections. When the children are settled the whole of the Reception outdoor area is accessible by all Reception children. The children don't free flow in classrooms, only the outside space.
We don't have a specialist teacher for Spanish, the class teachers deliver the subject using resources created for non-specialists. The subject leader is a Spanish speaker and assists the other teachers.
We usually host a holiday club which is run by an outside provider. They often take place during the three half terms, Easter and over the Summer holidays.
Raglan Wrap Club provides wrap around care, so breakfast club from 07:30 to the start of school and after school to 6pm. Details of the club can be found on our website here.
