TALK: Talk with your whanau about plants, the parts of plants, photosynthesis and about the types of plants that surround you.

DO: Go for a nature walk and collect leaves. Create your own leaf rubbing, diagram, or leaf art.

SHARE: Take a photo of your leaf rubbing, diagram, leaf rubbing art work, or any creation this learning has inspired and send it to your teacher.

Sound!

WATCH: Listen and watch Whaea Emily's video experimenting with sound.

TALK: Talk about sound, tone, experimenting and hypothesis. Talk about how to write your own hypothesis. Discuss what sound is. Share some of your bubbles' favourite sounds.

DO: Experiment with glasses and water, and try different things around your household. Discover what makes the best noises.

SHARE: Email your hypotheses to your teacher and talk about whether you proved it correct or incorrect. Or - send photos of yourself in action experimenting.

Earth Day

WATCH: Listen to and watch Whaea Emily talk about Earth Day.

TALK: Discuss with whanau what makes nature and natural things extraordinary? Discuss Earth Day and share the ways you already look after our earth.

DO: Celebrate Earth Day and collect 10 extraordinary Earth items that are special to you. In addition to this (or alternatively) make an Earth Day piece of art or creation.

SHARE: Take a photo of your extraordinary items, artwork, or creation and send it to your teacher. You could write out your explanation for why something is extraordinary and send this too!

Backyard Bug Hunt

WATCH: Listen to and watch science with Emily about going on a bug hunt.

TALK: Would humans survive if there were no insects? Discuss ecosystems, the roll bugs play, and different types of insects.

DO: Go on a bug hunt, identify what you find, and create a bug profile book.

SHARE:The creepy crawlies you find and bug profiles with your teacher.

Fizzy Feijoa Drinks

TALK: What is fermentation? What foods do we normally eat that are fermented? Are there any family traditions around fermentation?

DO: Follow the recipe to create your own fizzy feijoa drink.

TALK: What are the relationships between different things what are the similarities and differences? Are there any two items you can find that have absolutely no similarities?

DO: Create your own venn diagrams for things around your home carefully considering items properties.

TALK: Talk about acids and bases. What in your house is an acid or base? What types of food do you eat that are acidic?
