The Byramangala lake system on the outskirts of Bangalore is the result of a reservoir on the Vrishabhathi river, which flows from the city downstream into the Byramangala area. Just upstream from the lake is an industrial area. The river frothing with affluents collected from the city of Bangalore and augmented with industrial waste drains into this lake. Local farmers, continue to depend on the lake as they have done for decades. The quality of water has deteriorated to a point where stepping into the lake is considered a danger, however the farmers still harvest cattle fodder from it.
