The rapid expansion of Bangalore has been accompanied by environmental degradation in and around the city. This damage has taken many forms – deforestation to accommodate new residential and business layouts, lakes polluted with domestic and industrial affluents, a sharp decline in local species of flora and fauna and depleting water tables. Amongst this environmental destruction we have also seen tremendous resilience from individuals, communities and organizations who cherish and depend on the natural heritage around the city. Their stories of survival, ingenuity and persistence serve as a promise of regeneration and revival of the natural ecosystems that the city of Bangalore and its surroundings has been blessed with. Stories of Resilience is a collection of some such stories and through this website we want to share them with diverse populations of Bangalore, with the hope that it inspires positive change, at many levels.

These stories are just a start. We hope we will discover many more such stories of resilience from people in and around Bangalore. Please write to us at storiesofresilience00@gmail.com if you have a story to share.

This project is a collaboration between Quicksand and Bharat Mirle, and is supported by the Small Grants programme of the Bangalore Sustainability Forum.
