Central Idea: Musical traditions are influenced by cultures before them

• Change - How do cultural traditions change over time? What makes them change?

In this unit, students prepare a yearlong process to learn how West African traditions have influence modern arts today, and ways people have taken action through this. 

To start, West African traditions are studied to learn about games, songs, instruments, and dances. This culminates in a group arrangement using musical elements such as texture and form.
