Is the CPA profession declining in relevance as the business environment and industries are disrupting, changing, transforming, evolving and shifting dramatically? Truth be told, the complexities of today’s businesses and the changing demands and needs of stakeholders greatly challenging the professional to evolve and be disruptors themselves to keep up with these changes and be future-fluent.

The discourse redefines what professionals, specially the CPAs, could offer beyond the conventional role. More than the required competence and expertise, the role of accountants has evolved to be business advisors and more, providing relevant insights that are helpful to stakeholders and decision makers, and business advice that are highly relevant and timely given the meteoric-changing business landscape. This underscores also the importance of continuing professional development and the need for the professionals to continuously upgrade and expand their skill sets and be more competitive, agile and future-fluent professionals in an increasingly fast-paced and ever changing global business landscape.

The session will provide an overview of the Philippine economy in the recent period, as well as the investment opportunities. It will also present the fiscal performance of the Philippine economy in the past few years, and the health of the country's finances specially during the pandemic. It will also dwell on the numerous and various recovery and developmental initiatives of the country especially on the Build Build Build Program, and the status of some infrastructure undertakings. The speaker will also discuss the basic concepts of the Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).

The session with discuss the tax rules and methods for pricing transactions within and between enterprises under common ownership or control. It will also thresh out gray areas on transfer pricing, as well as discuss the approaches on how to set and revise transfer prices that are in compliance with the tax laws and regulations.

COVID-19 AND THE BOTS: WHAT'S UP NEXT FOR PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANTS

The digital age ushers in great opportunities but greater challenges for CPAs. It presents challenges in varying degrees to interconnect existing technology with awesome digital domains. Business and financial models will change and CPAs have to prepare for the needed professional competencies. Bots are coming and the CPAs have to transform and reinvent themselves to remain relevant and indispensable. They have to adapt and innovate.

On the other hand, Covid 19 severely affected businesses and the economy. While CPAs are getting ready for the BOTs’ coming under I4, Covid 19 made the preparation more complicated and much harder. The CPAs are faced with overwhelming, competing challenges and uncharted waters as they continue to navigate the impacts of BOTs and Covid 19.

The session will help them outmaneuver uncertainty by understanding the course and the tactical moves to face and overcome challenges as circumstances change again and again. This will teach them how to be agile and resilient specially in reassessing action plans, re-evaluating scenarios and strengthening their ability to sense and respond to whatever will change the rules of the game.

The Covid 19 pandemic has greatly affected a lot of people emotionally and mentally. While this is true and experienced by people across social status or age, the importance of emotional wellbeing is being highlighted to be able to cope and surmount any stress, fear, worry and mental disturbances spawned by challenges of working from home, job loss, pay cut, home-schooling of children. It is important that we look after and strengthen our mental, and even our physical health specially during challenging and trying times.

The speaker will provide guidance, tips and advice to help the participants on how to look after and bolster their mental health, and present healthy ways to cope with stress, fear and anxiety at a time when there is much discussion of potential threats to our physical health.

The session will explain why humor during crisis can help people deal with the emotional anxiety and turmoil, as well as stress and fear that they are facing during difficult, challenging and trying times. It will discuss how humor can help them develop a clear insight specially in making decisions and making themselves relevant as well the things they do, solving problems and dealing with mentally-challenging activities.
