We celebrate our young artists and recognise their individual achievements in taking risks, acquiring new skills, and creating artworks they can be truly proud of.
'It is wonderful to share our children's enthusiasm for the Visual Arts as they work individually and collaboratively supporting each other. It is delightful when they surprise themselves with their 'hidden' talents as they develop their unique artistic styles. It is an absolute pleasure to be part of their journeys.'
Sue Rigby, Senior Visual Arts Teacher
Grades 3 & 4: Collage
The children were inspired by MARGARET PRESTON (1875-1963) an Australian artist whose style was known as 'modernist' at that time. She created paintings and prints from woodcuts. She loved the Australian bush and the wild flowers. Margaret also included Aboriginal design motifs in her art.
Grades 3 & 4: Drawing & Painting (Mixed Media)
The children were inspired by PETE CROMER a contemporary Australian artist who lives in the Otway region in Victoria. His artworks are known for bursts of colour and texture. He creates paintings, collages and sculptures.
The children observed Pete Cromer artwork currently available on tableware in shops and were excited to see that artwork can be appreciated in this way.
Grades 5 & 6: Drawing
The children were inspired by the ANIME/MANGA style of drawing. They discovered that 'it' began in Japan early in the twentieth century.
Some of the first Anime to be introduced to Australia were: Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion and Speed Racer, followed by Pokemon.

Grades 5 & 6: Textiles
The children were inspired after learning that Ojo de Dios (God's Eye) have been traditionally made by the Mexican people dating back from the 16th century. They were placed where people worked or where they walked along a trail to mark it.
Grades 3 & 4: Textiles
The children viewed artworks by a variety of Australian textiles embroidery artists, including Annemieke Mein.
The children were inspired to create sewn artworks using tapestry needles and wool on hessian. They began by sewing running stitches around the first letter of their names. Each child created their own unique designs to complete them.

Grades 3 & 4: Sculpture
The children were inspired by artworks by ALBERTO GIACOMETTI (1901-1963) a Swiss sculptor, painter, printmaker and draughtsman. His distinctive elongated figures are some of the most instantly recognisable works of modern art.
The children created these sculptures in response to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. They captured poses specific to a variety of athletes/sports.

The children applied a range of paper skills including fringing, overlapping, scrunching and curling when creating the collages.
Grades 3 & 4: Drawing & Painting (Mixed Media)
The children were inspired by FRIDA KAHLO (1907-1954) a Mexican artist who survived many problems during life. At first, she created art to help her through her recovery times. Frida created many self-portraits and she also liked to include the plants and animals in her surroundings.
The children were amazed to discover that Frida actually painted herself with the unibrow and facial hair which made her so easily identifiable.
Grade 6: Construction
The children viewed a short story about the EDEN WILLOW LANTERN PROJECT. It is an example of where creating art together united a community.
Our Grade 6 children were inspired by the EDEN WILLOW LANTERN PROJECT and worked collaboratively over the year creating unique lanterns.
Grade 5: Drawing & Construction (Mixed Media)
The children practiced and extended their skills in drawing line patterns before constructing small textured, wall hangings.
Many children chose to coordinate the colours of their wall hangings to the Ojo De Dios which they had previously created.
Grades 5 & 6: Sculpture
The children were inspired by imaginary animal drawings (2D) by artist Carla Sonheim and quirky bird sculptures (3D) by artist Barbara Kobylinska.
The children used the foil to shape armatures on which to create their Modroc sculptures of imaginary creatures. They blended acrylic paints to create specific colours when painting them.
Grades 5 & 6: Drawing &
Painting (Mixed Media)
The children were inspired by artist M.C.Escher's tessellations. They designed individual tessellating tiles, then used them in the creation of colourful tessellating artworks.
This artwork had obvious links to Mathematics for our senior children with tessellations and translations, but also pattern making if coloured accordingly.
Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) was a Dutch graphic artist who made mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, drawing and printmaking.
Grades 3 & 4: Collage
The children had fun developing their paper skills. They discovered that by cutting tabs into strips of paper they were able to make the paper 'stand up' off the page, creating colourful 3D effects. The children produced shapes that were curved and they also made straight lines. They began to see applications for using tabs, including gluing things onto them so that they were capable of 'standing' too.
Grades 3 & 4: Collage
The children collaborated to produce Paper Skills charts which they referred to when creating collages. The charts were displayed in their classrooms for any class work that required paper skills.
