Dear Students,
Getting an education is perhaps the most important and wonderful opportunity of your young lives. I encourage each one of you to take advantage of the Queensmead School Library / Learning Resource Centre. There are many resources to help you with your school work and exciting new books to choose from. The library is your space to learn and discover. I am thrilled to be your librarian and to help you all become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers and skilful researchers.
I Look forward to seeing you all.
Located in the post 16 common room building down stairs next to the OLC (Online Learning Centre), the library is a key supplier of resources for the curricular and recreational needs of students and staff. It is open throughout the day from 8.00am to 4.30pm.
Resources in the library include a wide selection of fiction, non fiction, diversity books, positive mindset and a post 16 section. We have a number of Chromebooks all of which have internet access, A printer/photocopier is available for student use.
There are books and resources to suit everyone, from Year 7 to Sixth Formers, from those who devour books to those who are not quite so keen. Plus we have a huge section for our GCSE students ranging from past exam papers and textbooks.
Our chromebooks are available throughout the school day and all are internet connected. Each machine can be individually monitored, so sensible use is expected at all times.
The library staff offer help and guidance to the students on the selection and use of materials and seek to foster in them a love of reading. All year 7 students undergo a library induction course during their first term to help develop skills in locating, retrieving and evaluating resources.
All of our students are very welcome to visit the library during break 1 and 2, or after school in order to change books, use the chromebooks to do homework or simply sit and read.
