"If I'm Honest For Once" is Kayla Rowley's Senior Year Capstone! This project took songs released by Abby Powledge and applied it to original monolouges written by Kayla to highlight the highs and lows of high school and loosley reflect on Kayla's personal experience. Abby Powledge is an indie-pop artist who releases relatable music for teenage girls. This was chosen because this music has a special connection to Kayla, as it has been a motivator and outlet through the good and bad times of her life. In this performance there were 3 singers and 1 person playing the guitar, who was feautured in some of the songs. This was performed concert style, so it was simply raw vocals and emotions without the glamour of dancing or blocking. This performance was about 20 minutes long and feautred 6 of Abby Powledges music. These songs are meant to highlight the struggles of high school but also the joys of discovering self-love and happiness. This capstone is meant to display a story of a high school girl with young love, breakups, friendships, hardships and discovering yourself. Kayla chose to use these songs specifically because they personally helped her through hard times and inspired her to be a better person. High school can be a scary time but music can always be an outlet for many people. Kayla put her skills of interpreting music, directing others and the skills to perform songs and monologues to the test throughout this process.Â
