Every year the Crismon Music Department takes a trip to California to either perform or watch a live performance by a professional symphony followed by a day in an amusement park! Performances work much like our ABODA Festivals in which we perform for a set of judges, have a clinic and receive valuable feedback. For the amusement park aspect, in years past we have gone to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, or Universal Studios! We cycle through the park experiences each year :)

2026 Music in the Parks - Knott's Berry Farm
How does this trip benefit my student educationally?
This trip is all about music!
If we are performing - students receive feedback from judges on how to improve. It also highly benefits students to play in venues that they don't regularly play in! Some years, we have the opportunities to play in venues that are stunning! It's good to know what other places sound like.
If we go to watch a professional performance (usually the LA Philharmonic) students are able to see live professional musicians! This is not an opportunity most students get on a regular basis! Witnessing live professional music is an incredibly important part of growing musicians! They can see what's possible outside of our music classroom.
When does this trip typically happen?
In the past few years, our California trip has happened in the 4th quarter. Typically in April! (This is subject to change depending on various availabilities)
When will my student receive information for this trip?
This is heavily dependent on outside sources. There are a lot of moving parts to these kinds of trips that often require a multitude of communications. We try to get information out as early in the school year as possible. This past year we were able to send out communication around the second quarter.
How much do these trips cost out of pocket?
Again, there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to costs. We need to cover transportation, hotel, park admission, participation fees (whether it is for a festival or audience opportunity), and more. The 2026 trip cost $450. (Again, amount is subject to change depending on various necessities).
We often encourage payment to happen through Tax Credit Donation - this way it can benefit you in tax season.
Can all kids in the music program participate?
We try to include as many of our music students as possible! We take students from Orchestra, Band, and Choir on these trips (no guitar). In recent years we opened up the trip to our Junior High students as well as our High School students!
