Health Services

AVAILABLE SERVICES – Health services to the school are provided by a full-time registered nurse. The nurse is available to consult with students and teachers on health-related concerns. The services of a visiting drug counselor and an alcohol counselor are available to students in the school. Appointments with one of these counselors can be arranged through the school nurse or counseling department.

STUDENT ILLNESSES – Although the school encourages good attendance by students, students who are ill should not attend school. If the student is ill, the student should be sent to the school nurse with a health referral form completed by the teacher. The school nurse will then determine if the parents need to be notified and the student sent home for the remainder of the day. Students should be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

STUDENT ACCIDENTS – In case of a student accident, a faculty or staff member is expected to act as a reasonable person would under the circumstances. In all cases, the school nurse and the administrator of the school should be notified immediately. A written report using an “Accident Report Form” will be turned in to the principal, by the nurse, before the end of day.

MEDICATIONS – If a physician deems it necessary for a student to receive medication during the school day, parents/guardians are to provide the school with a complete physician’s medication order form. Forms are available in the nurse’s office. Physician’s medication order forms are to be submitted at the beginning of each school year and renewed annually for students on long-term medication therapy.

INSURANCE – A student accident insurance program is made available at a reduced rate. This information is distributed to students each year on the first day of school. Forms are available in the office.
