Yes, but it is not recommended. We encourage students to select a variety of electives, including both open and application-based options. Since placement in application-based electives is not guaranteed, having a mix of choices increases the likelihood of receiving a preferred elective. If a student is not accepted into an application-based elective and has no other available choices, counselors will assign an elective based on scheduling availability.
Unfortunately, applications are only open for a limited time. All applications will be available online through our counseling website during the application window.
Once the deadline passes, late applications will not be accepted due to limited space and high demand.
This is why we encourage students to choose a mix of open electives and application-based electives so they have other options if they miss a deadline or are not selected for an application-based elective.
All students must select 4 options when completing the elective form. We do our best to prioritize your top two choices, but we cannot guarantee placements into elective classes.
All families will receive several communications via email and text leading up to and during the application window. Please make sure your email and phone numbers are up to date in the Aeries portal.
Yes, students may change their preferences at any time up to the second week of the school year. Placement in alternative electives is, however, based on space and availability. Contact your counselor to submit any change requests.
Students will recieve tentative course lists during their assigned registration date in the summer. Please note, students will receive their final schedule on the first day of school.
Yes. Counselors make every effort to honor students’ elective choices. However, due to scheduling conflicts, class availability, or other limitations, students may be placed in an elective they did not select.
Please note: This is only done as a last resort when none of the student's preferred electives can be accommodated.
Yes! While we do our best to give students their top choices, it is not always possible. Some electives are only offered once a day or may conflict with your core classes (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies), which take priority.
Depending on your schedule, you may receive:
Your top elective choices
Your lower-ranked choices
A mix of your top and lower-ranked choices
An elective you did not select, if your choices are unavailable or do not fit your schedule
Remember: Ranking an elective as your #1 choice does not guarantee placement. Choose all four electives carefully because you may be placed in any of them!
