Meet Mrs. Aleksic & Mr. Nakanishi

A Little About Mrs. Aleksic ...

(I'll be teaching language arts and social studies to all 6th graders.)

  • This is my 26th year of teaching. I've taught all grades 1-6! All 25 years have been at Brookhaven. Lucky me!

  • I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in accounting. After passing the CPA exam and spending a few years at Kenneth Leventhal, I decided my heart was in teaching so I earned my teaching credential at CSUSB. Later, I completed the work for my master's degree in education at National University.

  • My husband's name is Dragan. He was born in Serbia and became a US citizen in 2000.

  • I have one son... Luke. He is my absolute favorite human being ever! This year he is a sophomore in high school.

  • I have two dogs... Pork Chop and Milo Both are rescues (and totally adorable).

  • I love all kinds of music, especially Rick Springfield! I'm missing going to live concerts and Broadway musicals.

  • One of my favorite past times (not including Rick Springfield concerts) is riding my bicycle with my best friend and/or son. We normally ride from Balboa to the water tower in Seal Beach so keep an eye out for us on Saturdays!

  • I love to travel!!! My favorite trip was a vacation to Scotland I took with a friend after my junior year in high school. We spent six weeks immersed the culture tasting new foods (like haggis), visiting castles, learning dances, and hanging out with friends and family. I even met the Queen!

  • One of my favorite ways to relax is to immerse myself in a great book. I especially love a good mystery or horror book. Stephen King and Dean Koontz are two of my favorite authors.

A Few Things About Mr. Naka...

(I'll be teaching math, science, and grammar.)

  • This will be my 28th year of teaching. I have taught all 28 years in the same classroom at Brookhaven!

  • I graduated from CSUF with a degree in finance. I discovered my love of teaching while doing the bookkeeping at the CSUF Children's Center. I was able to help out in some of the classrooms one summer, and I found that I would rather be doing that than sitting behind a desk!

  • My wife's name is Lori, and we've been married for 14 years.

  • We have two grandchildren, Remi and Leo. Remi is 5 years old, and Leo is 3 years old.

  • Some of my hobbies include: running, mountain biking, hiking, golfing, softball, and pickleball.

  • Last year, I was lucky enough to hike the Camino de Santiago in Spain. It was an amazing adventure! One of these days I would like to go back and hike a different route. Buen Camino!

  • When you see my classroom, you'll quickly notice I am a huge sports fan. Especially a huge sports fan of the Bay Area teams. No Dodgers, Ducks, Rams, and Lakers fans allowed! đŸ˜†
