Orchestra is a class that is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who are interested in learning how to play violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students are taught instrument technique, listening/aural skills, and ensemble/interpersonal skills.
The following is a more detailed list of the course requirements and performances.
Course Requirements:
(1) Participation in Orchestra rehearsals every other day.
(2) Good attendance and participation in lessons weekly.
(3) Independent practice and preparation for Orchestra rehearsals and lessons.
(4) Attendance and participation in required performances.
Required Performances:
(1) PYMS Winter Concert (December)
(2) PYMS Spring Concert (May)
(3) Spring String Fling Thing Concert (May)
(4) Darien Lake Music Competition (May)
(5) Eighth Grade Graduation (6th & 7th Grade Orchestra members-June)
Optional Performance Opportunities:
(1) Jr. High Area All-State (November)
(2) Jr./Sr. High All-County Festival (7th & 8th Grade Orchestra members-January)
(3) Elementary All-County Festival (6th Grade Orchestra members-February)
(4) NYSSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival (April)
