5th Grade

Week of April 22, 2019

Hello everyone,

Enjoy your Spring Break from April 13-21. Students will be back in school on Monday, April 22nd.

Las Colinas will have an informational Parent Night for all parents of incoming 6th graders in the Las Colinas Gym at 5:30 on April 23rd. There will be a field trip to Las Colinas for the 5th graders on the afternoon of May 28th.

Information about our End of Year festivities for the promoting 5th graders will be coming home soon. Please watch for it and help out in whatever ways you can. Thank you!

CAASPP testing will take place from May 6th through May 24th.

Spring Pictures are scheduled for April 30th. This year the spring pictures must be ordered in advance. 5th graders will also have the opportunity to purchase a panoramic photo of the entire 5th grade class. This must also be ordered in advance.

For the week of April 22nd, here’s what you can expect:

Language Arts: This week the students will begin a new book study. This novel study will focus on Walk Two Moons. Students will be building on their inferential skills as well as character traits and figurative language through this amazing story. Please do not allow your child to read ahead, as we will be doing some predicting activities.

Math: This week the 5th graders will continue working with properties of quadrilaterals. There will be a test on module 5 on Friday, April 26th.

Geography: – The 5th graders will continue studying the states and capitals this week. There will be a quiz on the third region, the South Central States, on Thursday, April 25th.

Science: This week the 5th graders will begin a new unit on matter. They will learn about the Periodic Table of the Elements, as well as information about matter, elements, and physical and chemical changes of matter.
