Week of April 22, 2019

Hello everyone,

Enjoy your Spring Break from April 13-21. Students will be back in school on Monday, April 22^nd.

Las Colinas will have an informational Parent Night for all parents of incoming 6^th graders in the Las Colinas Gym at 5:30 on April 23^rd. There will be a field trip to Las Colinas for the 5^th graders on the afternoon of May 28^th.

Information about our End of Year festivities for the promoting 5^th graders will be coming home soon. Please watch for it and help out in whatever ways you can. Thank you!

CAASPP testing will take place from May 6^th through May 24^th.

Spring Pictures are scheduled for April 30^th. This year the spring pictures must be ordered in advance. 5^th graders will also have the opportunity to purchase a panoramic photo of the entire 5^th grade class. This must also be ordered in advance.

For the week of April 22^nd, here’s what you can expect:

Language Arts: This week the students will begin a new book study. This novel study will focus on Walk Two Moons. Students will be building on their inferential skills as well as character traits and figurative language through this amazing story. Please do not allow your child to read ahead, as we will be doing some predicting activities.

Math: This week the 5^th graders will continue working with properties of quadrilaterals. There will be a test on module 5 on Friday, April 26^th.

Geography: – The 5^th graders will continue studying the states and capitals this week. There will be a quiz on the third region, the South Central States, on Thursday, April 25^th.

Science: This week the 5^th graders will begin a new unit on matter. They will learn about the Periodic Table of the Elements, as well as information about matter, elements, and physical and chemical changes of matter.
