Welcome to Monte Vista's Music elective program! Your child’s elective class for this semester is Music 6 - Intro to Band. This Exploratory Music class is part of Monte Vista’s elective wheel program. I hope that they will find this class both interesting and challenging. While students will be learning to read music and play a band instrument, this class will also include a focus on technology-based projects and students will learn about different musical styles, music history, music vocabulary, and music composition as well.
Note - I am aware that many students in this class wanted to be placed in the full-year Beginning Band class, but there was a waiting list for that class. The Monte Vista counselor and I will do our best to move students who wish to continue into the full-year Beginning Band at the end of January (for 2nd semester). Thank you for your understanding!
Welcome to Music 6! All digital assignments and resource materials will be posted under the "Classwork" tab in Google Classroom.
Music 6 - Period 4
Length of Class: 1 Semester
Announcements: We will spend the first week and a half of school learning the basics of music reading and about the various instrument options available for Beginning Band instruction. Students may rent, buy or borrow an instrument. Students who wish to borrow a school district instrument will need to have their parent/guardian fill out the PVSD Instrument Request Form (a Google Form link will be posted in Google classroom after our second session). Please note that the school district has limited numbers of some instruments, so students will need to pick both a first-choice and a second-choice instrument on the form.
General Information: Students should bring their instrument and music binder to class every day once they have instruments. Students may drop their instrument off at the band room before school and pick it up after school. Rehearsals will include warm-ups, rhythm studies, method book exercises (Standard of Excellence), and sheet music.
Note - Students are asked to practice 2x per week at home (or more!) to improve their instrumental skills if they wish to try to get into the full-year class.
