Butterflies, like our students here at SRTMS, are very interesting and unique. There are thousands of different species and varieties of butterflies. There are cross varieties of these extraordinary species, and ,even though they are different they share a lot in common. That includes their behaviors and eating habits. In all species of butterflies, the adult butterfly's diet consists of nectar, a mixture of sweet sugars and any nutrients inside other flowers. Some species do eat or drink the juice from juicy fruits. When feeding butterflies get covered in pollen and pollen grains. Butterflies also do an action called “puddling”. This is when the males drink sodium and any other dissolved minerals (that they can’t obtain from food). It is scientific that the males feed the puddles to the females during mating season. Another scientific fact is that butterflies of all species drink urine, and this is because urine is extremely healthy. Butterflies even prefer urine over meat. Butterflies like the SRTMS eagles fly, but butterflies can flap their wings 10 times a second.
