This is the information parents and students need to know for the day to day operation of the school. Covid-19 Safe School Planning is divided into sections:
School Day and School Operations
Students and Care
The Academic Program
Contingency Planning
Hygiene is extremely important. Hand washing is better than sanitizing, when possible. Students are encouraged to bring sanitizer AND the there will be stations within the school. It is VITAL that all people sanitize their hands when they enter a classroom or space.
Students will be provided with sanitizing wipes or sanitizing spray to sanitize things they personally use, like a computer, or their desk before and after eating.
Caretakers have new standards and are cleaning regularly. Common use spaces (like bathrooms) and high touch spaces (like the water fill stations) are cleaned regularly and we will have hand sanitizer available where hand washing isn't.
Students will not have a common break, to prevent the gathering of groups of students, but they will have time in their day for breaks. Teachers have arranged times for breaks for students, at different times, using different spaces. Grade 10-12 students will exits and enter the building as per their teachers' instructions. NOTE: Grade 8 and 9 students are not permitted off school property during class time, unless with a supervisor for a curricular reason.
Students who live in town are permitted and encouraged to go home, but not required to.
Grade 8, and 10 students will eat in a designated room, and if they have ordered food it will be delivered to their third period class in individual packaging. Students may be given an alternate location to accommodate cleaning practices, and to ensure appropriate social distancing while masks are off for eating.
Grade 11 and 12 students will eat in two designated classrooms.
Students can access the community (free) lunch program or they can purchase the canteen special ($4/meal) by completing a Google form every day by 9:30 am. Ms. Carmen has a punch card option where a student can purchase meals ahead of time, and then simply use that up with the punch card. Or, they may purchase daily. Students will be asked to complete a Google form at school indicating what their lunch hour needs are.
When students arrive in the morning they are asked to be patient and leave space between themselves and other people. (social distancing)
Students arriving off the bus will enter one bus as a time, and another will wait if more than one bus is dropping off students at the same time.
Upon arrival students will sanitize their hands and proceed to their locker and then their first period class. Students may use the washroom, knowing that they will need to wait for others, as a maximum of 3 people in the washroom at any one time.
AFTER the first day of school students will enter the building through the door that is closest to their first period class.
At the end of the day students who drive will be released first to exit the parking lot on Neeping Street (closest to the Rexenter). Then bus students will be released. Middle years students will use the main doors and students in grades 10-12 will exit either the south or west doors, whichever is closest to their last class.
Students and staff are asked to social distance (2 meters) where possible, inside and outside the school.
When walking in the hall, students must walk on the correct side, as indicated by the arrows. This means one side or the other, and they must have their mask on in the hallway.
Students will be forward facing for instruction, and will not be working in small groups. For Physical Education we are planning for things that do not require touching the same equipment or physical contact in any way. ie) no floor hockey, but rather things like badminton, or physical activity on an individual yoga mat. For other courses, like drama students will be participating in small groups outside where distancing can be maintained.
When students leave school property outside of a designated break, they must sign out and sign at the office.
When a student show symptoms of Covid-19 , the classroom teacher will contact administration who will safely accompany the student to the student care room. Physical distancing will be maintained.
The school will call the parent/guardian to pick up their child. School staff will not be transporting students home.
Parents and guardians will be asked to call 811 for further instructions. The school does not contact Public Health.
Once the student has left all areas of contact are cleaned and disinfected.
Under the Saskatchewan Safe Schools plan, there are four phases of education delivery in the province:
Level 1 – Full in-class learning with some additional measures to ensure student and staff safety.
Level 2 – Full in-class learning – Mask usage for students and staff, as per the guidance provided to school divisions by Saskatchewan's Chief Medical Health Officer. (current level)
Level 3 – Reduced in-class learning.
Level 4 – Transition to alternative learning opportunities offered by divisions.
There is no exact plan from the government on when schools, or a school would move to online learning. In order to be ready for this we have created one place for all online information. This site will serve as the center for online learning, not matter which level we are in.
It is vital that we have an email address for every family to communicate with.
Your PVSD email is first name last name @pvsd.ca and your login is your password that you use to login to the computer.
Your teacher will provide you a one time login if it needs to be reset and then you will be prompted to change it.
You will need your PVSD login for all of your Google Classrooms. Only your PVSD accounts will allow you access to school generated resources. It is important that students are aware and using online support provided by classroom teachers
