Western Undergraduate Exchange
WUE Provides Students Greater Access to College with Reduced Tuition Rates at Participating Schools
Going to college out of state may mean paying up to three times more than attending a school or university in your home state/territory*. The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) was established in 1987 to make college more affordable and accessible to students in the West.
Through WUE, students from the WICHE region* can choose from hundreds of undergraduate programs across the West and pay no more than 150% of the institution’s resident tuition rate.
Today, more than 170 public colleges and universities offer reduced tuition rates through WUE to qualifying students. Participating schools offer these discounted rates to help students avoid the full cost of pursuing higher education outside their home state and minimize the impact of student loan debt.
See the flyer for a list of WUE schools and how to apply.

College Application Steps
The time to apply to colleges is now here so below is a guide on what steps you need to take.
Decide what colleges to apply to. I recommend at least three colleges if not more. Keep in mind that not every college offers the same programs so look at each college's degrees and/or programs to make sure that they have what you want to major in.
Fill out the college application. Depending on the college, you can apply straight on the website or you can use Common App. The application is under the Admissions tab of the college website.
Once you fill out the application, you will need to send transcripts to the college. Most colleges will request OFFICIAL TRANSCIPTS and you can request those from Ms. Carrie. If you are using Common App then I upload those to your account.
Pay the application fee. Sometimes you can request a fee waiver if you ask the college directly.
Upload supplementals. Some colleges will request college essays, letters of recommendation, or other documents to review with your application. Please make sure that everything is uploaded or your application will be incomplete. All seniors should have take the SAT last year. Your score may or may not be required for your application. If the college is test-optional, then I recommend uploading your score if it is average or above.
Fill out the FAFSA. Every year that you are in college, you MUST fill out the FAFSA. To start an application, go to the Federal Student Aid website: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa You will need the same account every year, so please do not lose your login info. You are also awarded grant money and work study on the FAFSA form if you are eligible so be sure to get it done. Once the application is submitted, your financial award will go to the college that you will attend. You are not obligated to accept all the money, just accept what you need. Keep in mind that you will need to pay back what you decide to borrow.
If you need help with any applications, you can email me at dkm@pvs.k12.nm.us to make an appointment.
