Confederate statues and monuments have been taken down in public places all over the united states. In states that the governor has done nothing about these statues protesters have taken the matter into their own hands. They have taken the statues down themselves. Everyone knows that removing the statues will not change the past but “It is about removing a potential distraction so we may focus clearly on the future of our city. That conversation, and the mission to create one Mobile, continues today.”
Police reforms have started to happen and make their way into stations across america. Part of their budgets have been redirected towards the community and social services. Some police officers have been fired but not all. We have to continue to fight until justice is served.
The movement has helped ban the use of chokeholds and have police required to report unauthorised use of force by colleagues. Police officers have been put on trial, fired, unpaid leave and charged for their actions. Sadly not all have been charged. We have to continue to take the bad apples out of the mix and stand up.
