Purpose

Children around the world have experienced so much this past year. With uncertainty globally and a loss of normalcy and human connections, many question the negative effects the pandemic will have on the emotional growth of our children. However out of challenges and adversity often comes stories of connections made between those that might not have ever thought possible. Despite the negativity that we often find ourselves surrounded by, children always offer the light of the future, the path to change and the importance of optimism. That is where this story begins.

On February 21, 2021, a small group of children from Cameroon, Africa meet a small group of children from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada (part of the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, Clarington Catholic School Board) virtually. What brought them together was a common thread of activism towards change and understanding for the planet that they share. A planet that they cherish and want to preserve. A planet that is trying desperately to heal itself despite human impact. It is the like-minded youth and the power to want and seek change that unites these two groups of children.

As they proceed through this learning together their hope and aspiration for this collaborative project is to learn, educate and seek change for the forests that protect them, that house them and all creatures, that are vital to survival. To better understand the impacts of climate change globally and how their actions can advocate for change. Share with them this passion for understanding and change and to protect the planet that we all share.
