Throughout our summer internship, we were assigned mini-projects that would help us better understand our environmental footprint and daily actions that have to potential to massively affect the Earth. We created solar ovens, began composts and gardens, learned about photosynthesis and the process of oxygen creation from plants, as well as the implications of plastic and its extensive and harmful effects/usage. You can find some of the projects we did below.

The pictures above are of a solar oven made at home to cook dry apples. Solar ovens are not only inexpensive but also environmentally friendly, as you are not using gas or electric, thus reducing your carbon footprint and preserving natural resources such as biomass fuels.

These pictures are of a compost you can easily make at home. By composting wasted food, it helps the environment by reducing methane emissions and conserving landfill space. The one pictured above is a small example but is easily maintainable. The nutrient-rich soil will then be used to grow vegetables.

Growing your own food is sustainable and nourishes the soil because of the safe and natural fertilizers. It also reduces the amount of harmful chemicals that pollute the environment.
