Chromebook Help

Chromebooks are deployed to each site for student use. This allows for in class research, online tests or exams among other tasks. Each student has their own login and allows the ability for favorite sites to be bookmarked. The student may also customize settings such as wallpaper, font size and District approved plugins. Accessibility settings are also made available to each student.

For questions about Chromebook related charges to your account please email: chromebook-repairs@pvschools.net

Login:

Chromebooks are managed by the district. Students must use their district provided credentials to login. Formatting for login is username & password. (no need to add @pvlearners.net on the login screen)

*Three unsuccessful login attempts will lock a users account for 15 minutes.

After logging in, the student may open their browser, or open email using the icons on the bottom of the screen.

Unable to Access Application

Occasionally, an account will be unable to access a specific application while others are unaffected. Troubleshooting these issues usually begins with clearing the cache & cookies of the browser, and/or sometimes disabling extensions one by one until the issue is resolved.

Clearing the Cache or Cookies in Browser

If the Chromebook is not working as expected, one of the first steps recommended is clearing the cache. This can be done by clicking the three dots in the upper right hand corner, then looking for "Settings", then "Privacy and security", and then "Clear browsing data".  You will see a popup appear.

Is is important to verify the following items before clicking the "Clear Data" button. Make sure all three check boxes are selected, and the drop down says "All Time". This will ensure all potential issues are cleared.

Chromebook Not Working

If your Chromebook stops functioning, or is damaged, please contact your school directly. This includes microphones and video issues.

Google Meet Up Issues

If you are seeing a green screen or experience video issues, please update to the latest OS on your Chromebook. Open the browser and click the 3 dots in the upper right corner. Then click "Help" then "About Google Chrome".  If you see a button to update, click it.

If you are seeing a message about "You cannot join", please email your teacher and have them invite you into the meet up. (the teacher will see a  +people button)  Your student will receive an email with a link to rejoin the Google Meet session. This is a known Google issue that they are working on to resolve.

Forcing an OS Update

Occasionally a Chromebook will not auto update. If you want to force an update hold the power button for 5 seconds, let the device power down. Wait 5 seconds then boot up normally.  Check your version number using the tip above.

Slow or Sluggish Behavior

Due to the large number of configuration possibilities from a home network, we offer this information as a possible fix. Occasionally we will see slow or sluggish behavior from a Chromebook. These symptoms may appear as slow connection to G Suite apps, or 3-5 minute delays in opening your pvlearners email. Some users have corrected this issue by changing to another band on their available wireless. (please keep in mind, some modems do not offer a second band) Typically newer devices will attempt to join the fastest network available. Usually 5GHz. We have received a few emails telling us that moving  the Chromebook to a different band helps with the speed of the device. Look for the 2.4GHz band if your modem offers this option.

Note: After December 31, 2020, Google Cloud Print will no longer be supported.  This was a Google decision not a PVUSD IT decision.

Using a personal device or personal Chromebook

If you are using a personal device to login, please open an "incognito" or "private window" and then visit auth.pvschools.net. This will allow you to replicate a login on one of our district supplied Chromebooks. It is NOT recommended that you create a pvlearners account on a personal Chromebook.

Additional information can be found here.

We have found that Google's Family Link software does not work well with PVLearners accounts. We provide our own filtering and management, it appears the Family Link filtering creates issues. We have seen users unable to access their email and unable to join Google Meets.
