IB English 1: IB Language A (English) courses prepare students to take the International Baccalaureate Language A exams at either the Subsidiary or Higher level. Course content includes in-depth study of literature chosen from the appropriate IB list of texts and authors and written analyses of this literature in addition to other oral and written assignments. All course content is designed to improve students’ accuracy and fluency in the English language.
Algebra 1: This course includes a study of sets of real numbers, solution of first and second-degree equations, graphing on the coordinate plane, applications of algebra to data analysis and probability, patterns and functions and their applications, measurement and discrete mathematics, and basic mathematical structures. The course content is designed to address, in part, the requirements of the State of Arizona as outlined in the State Mathematics Standard and as assessed by the state assessment testing program.

Earth Science 1: This course provides students with instruction in oceanography, geology, astronomy, space technology, and weather and climate. Students may be required to keep a notebook and produce oral and written projects, geology, astronomy, space technology, and weather and climate. Biology 1: For students who completed Algebra 1-2 and also received an A or B in Science. Students must also register for Geometry 1-2 or higher math in 9th grade. This survey course covers the general spectrum of biology. It includes laboratory procedures and investigations. An average of one day per week will be devoted to lab work. Students may be expected to complete one or more projects per quarter.
Honors Biology 1: For students who took Honors Math and Honors Science in 8th grade. Students must also register for Geometry 1-2 or higher math in 9th grade. This course is designed for academically motivated students. Individual and/or group projects are required. Additional areas not included in the standard course are explored. Students may expect an average of two days per week in laboratory experiences.
World History 1: This course covers the development of mankind through such topics as geography, early civilizations, middle Ages, Reformation and the modern world with an emphasis on Western Civilization. Discussion will include the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
AP World History 1: The purpose of this course is for students to develop greater understanding of the evolution of global processes and contacts, in interaction with different types of human societies. This understanding is advanced through a combination of selective factual knowledge and appropriate analytical skills. The course highlights the nature of changes in international frameworks and their causes and consequences, as well as comparisons among major societies. The course emphasizes relevant factual knowledge deployed in conjunction with leading interpretive issues and types of historical evidence. The course builds on an understanding of cultural, institutional, and technological precedents that along with geography, set the human stage. Periodization, explicitly discussed, forms an organizing principle for dealing with change and continuity throughout the course. Specific themes provide further organization to the course, along with the consistent attention to contacts among societies that form the core of world history as a field of study.
Life Concepts/Individual Sports: This course will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to continue and maintain good health. An emphasis will be placed on developing student’s appreciation of an optimum level of physical fitness, through participation in lifetime leisure sports and activities, and health and fitness related exercise programs. L.I.F.E Concepts and a PE Choice course are required for graduation. L.I.F.E Concepts is the recommended course for freshman year.
Weight Training 1: This is an introductory course designed for students who are serious about making personal fitness goals. Programs will be provided using established weight training principles. Aerobic and anaerobic conditioning also will be a part of workout routines. This course is open to men and women.
Men's Individual Sports: This course is designed to give students an introduction to a variety of lifetime individual sports. These activities may include tennis, badminton, racquetball, handball, cross-country, pickleball, golf, archery, swimming, bowling, and rock climbing.
Women's Individual Sports: This course is designed to give students an introduction to a variety of lifetime individual sports. These activities may include tennis, badminton, racquetball, handball, pickleball, cross country, golf, archery, swimming, bowling, and rock climbing.
Advanced PE Basketball: This course is designed to teach students techniques, rules, and fundamentals of basketball. Individual and team strategies will be stressed. Students will learn both offensive and defensive strategies. Skill development and sportsmanship will be emphasized. Freshmen allowed with instructor approval.
Advanced PE Soccer: This course is designed to teach fundamentals, rules, and soccer techniques. Individual and team strategies will be developed in trapping, kicking, scoring, and overall rules development. Students will gain a full array of knowledge in game strategies, player development, rules, and skill development. Conditioning, drill work, and sportsmanship will be emphasized. Freshmen allowed with instructor approval.
Advanced PE Volleyball: This course is designed to teach fundamentals, rules, and volleyball techniques. Individual and team strategies will be developed. This is a skill and theory based course designed for all levels of ability. Students will learn techniques in serving, passing, spiking, blocking, and digging, as well as advanced theory and practice of offensive and defensive strategies. Skill development and sportsmanship will be emphasized. Freshmen allowed with instructor approval.
