What is Division?

Division is a way to split something into equal parts or groups. For example, if you have 12 pieces of candy and want to share them with 3 friends, division helps you figure out that each person gets 4 pieces. It’s like taking a big group and dividing it evenly. The division sign (÷) shows that you are separating something into equal parts. Division helps you find out how much goes into each group or how many groups you can make.

Division is useful when you’re sharing or splitting things. If you bake 24 cookies and want to pack them evenly into 6 boxes, division tells you that each box gets 4 cookies. You also use division when you want to figure out how many teams you can make from a group of players, or how many pages you need to read each day to finish a book in a week. Anytime you are dividing something into equal groups, you're using division.
